Austin Kleon is a writer, cartoonist, designer, and visual thinker obsessed with the art of communicating with pictures and words…together. He is best known for his Newspaper Blackout Poems which I stumbled across this evening. These are poems which are made by taking a permanent marker to a newspaper and eliminating the words he doesn’t need, resulting in a collection of what would be randomly out-of-place words making up a poem. Kleon started making them in 2005 when he had finished college and was facing writers block, these poems then spread around the internet and in April 2010 Harper Perennial published a collection of his work. Such a simple but cool idea!
