Guy Laramee’s most recent project entitled, ‘The Great Wall’, sees him create amazing miniature landscapes by carving into old books, dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Laramée is an interdisciplinary artist who, in the course of his 30 years of practice, found his way through such varied and numerous disciplines as stage writing, stage directing, contemporary music writing, musical instrument design and building, singing, video, scenography, sculpture, installation, painting and literature.

Could you be the next Superhero..?!

I received an email last week with the subject title ‘Gabriella…could you be the next Superhero?’, the email went on to explain that to celebrate the launch of the super powerful combination of snack-goodness that is Jalapeño Fire Doritos and Pepsi Max with lime, they wanted to send me package to put my taste buds to the test…how could I say no. Explaining that they had ’been trawling the web, night and day to find people like (me) to join the exclusive new force of snack-loving heroes’ and that I had been picked because my ‘super powers to see through time and predict trends plus love of cardboard taxidermy will make me an ultimate candidate to join the force of fire and ice superheroes’…a bit of flattery goes a long way! All I had to do to complete my Superhero mission was to send my Superhero name (Trend Predictor, original I know), a photograph and my address….

Well…today a ‘Super Hero Survival Kit’ landed on my desk at work, and a pretty big box at that. To say their way of catching a bloggers attention is quite successful would be an understatement with the box including a large bag of Jalapeño Fire Doritos, a bottle of Pepsi Max with lime, the Kick Ass DVD, ‘invisibility’ sunglasses, The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook and a hand drawn image based on the picture I sent through and the Superhero name I gave them. A lot of companies really need to take note of how to stand out from the crowd by using promotion such as this; creating interest around the product with their initial email and then backing it up even more with the box of goodies…bravo to you Doritos x Pepsi Max. The Jalapeño Fire Doritos went down a treat with my colleagues at work, burning our mouths in the process!! So if you haven’t already tried it; jump on the Jalapeño Fire Doritos and Pepsi Max with lime bandwagon!

Oat Shoes – Shoes That Bloom

Eco friendly and recycled footwear has been around for a while now, however Oat Shoes have gone one step further (no pun intended). Their footwear is made from hemp canvas, bio-cotton, cork and certified biodegradable plastic. The twist is once you have worn them out you can bury them in the garden and wild flowers will grow from the seeds hidden in the tongue.

Cardboard Taxidermy

Being a huge fan of wall art I have been eyeing up the Cardboard Taxidermy pieces in Urban Outfitters for the past few weeks. The laser-cut pieces are made from 100% recycled cardboard and fit together like a puzzle to create the animal of your choice; in this case an Elephant, a Deer and a Moose. Urban Outfitters describe the thought behind them as – “if you want the super-manly, dead-thing’s-head-on-the-living-room-wall thing going on, but the whole going out and killing something for the sake of decoration isn’t really your scene.”…I will have one of each, please!

Double Exposure Portraits

Dan Mountford is a graphic design student from Brighton whose ‘Double Exposure Portraits’ plays with the cameras double exposure and reflection. He then makes slight alterations to the tones, removes odd blemishes and adds some vector, using Photoshop and Illustrator…the result of this is pretty amazing.
